The CSF Bronco 2.7L External Transmission Oil Cooler Kit is a complete bolt-on system designed to provide the kind of protection serious off-roaders need. Whether you’re scaling dunes, crawling rocks, or just exploring the backcountry, overheating your transmission can put a real damper on your adventure. CSF’s new system offers a major performance boost over the factory liquid-to-liquid cooler and improves upon the design of the factory Bronco Raptor system.
CSF leveraged decades of cooling experience to design our first complete Oil Cooler Kit. As a leader in performance cooling technology, CSF wanted to bring the best possible kit to the market. CSF used best in class materials and state of the art technology. This plug-and-play solution is an essential upgrade for the 2.7L Bronco and offers several key benefits:
All the major components of the kit are bespoke and were made to CSF’s meticulous specifications.
The OE Transmission Oil Cooler from Ford is a small, water-to-oil stack cooler. While adequate for daily driving, it can easily become overwhelmed when these rigs are pushed to their limits. It’s not just high-horsepower builds or hardcore off-roaders who need better cooling. Many overlanders, campers, and weekend adventurers add significant weight and drag to their Broncos. Roof-mounted tents, spare tires, fuel cans, and oversized tires all increase the load on both the engine and transmission. With CSF’s kit, your 2.7L Bronco gains the cooling capacity it should have had from the factory, providing crucial protection and preserving performance.
The CSF system was built around a high-performance transmission oil cooler built with CSF’s Micro Channel Technology. The core features a super-high-pressure 26mm 12-channel microtube design that maximizes oil flow and surface area contact. Constructed of 11 rows of cooling tubes and paired with 12 rows of 8mm multi-louvered high-performance fins, it delivers outstanding heat transfer efficiency. A CNC billet-machined thermostatic plate replaces the factory stack cooler which reroutes transmission fluid to the new cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Motorsport-grade lines and patented quick-release fittings by DYME PSI ensure a clean, fast, and straight-forward installation.
The CSF engineering team conducted real world testing on the 2.7L Bronco. Testing was performed in the California desert on a warm day with temperatures hitting a high of 97°F (36°C). @acfab_oscar was kind enough to lend CSF his rig to validate the performance of the new Transmission Oil Cooler Kit under real world conditions both on and off-road. Many Bronco owners report transmission temps in the 200-215°F (93-102°C) range under moderate load. Some owners have seen temperatures as high as 280°F (138°C) in extreme conditions.
Test data showed a peak transmission oil temperature of just 180°F (82°C). This number was recorded during stop-and-go traffic immediately following the off-road test with an ambient temperature of 93°F (34°C). Over the course of testing, the transmission saw a ∆T of only 26°F (13.4°C). The data proves both a substantial reduction in transmission temperatures and vast increase in cooling capacity.
CSF partnered with DYME PSI for their exceptional quality and innovative quick-release hose and fitting solutions. The DYME Pro/Spec Quick Release Fittings offer race-proven performance with the convenience of tool-free clamshell removal and capable of withstanding up to 10,000 PSI. Quick Release fittings make the installation of the CSF kit much faster than traditional threaded fittings. In addition, they make maintenance like fluid changes much less of a headache.
The hoses are a Superstrasse CPE lined stainless steel braided rubber hose for maximum flexibility, flow, and chemical resistance. The lines are ideal for motorsports use and more than capable of handling the rigors of off-roading.
